This morning I decided to make my favorite breakfast, biscuits and gravy. Thanks to my mother-in-law for giving me the recipe for my bridal shower a year ago.
I attempted to make homemade biscuits but I was in a hurry ended up adding a bit to much cream of tarter. My biscuits looked awesome but tasted very tart. It was very sad to throw them all away. Thank goodness I had a back up plan.
Sausage Gravy
(Source: My Mother-in-Law)
Ingredients:
1 lb. pork sausage
2 tbls finely chopped onion
6 tbls AP flour
4 cups milk
1/2 tsp sage
1/4 tsp salt
Directions:
In a large skillet over medium heat cook the sausage and onion until sausage is no longer pink. Drain, reserving 2 tbls drippings in skillet (I never drain it because I never get 2 tbls worth of drippings). Stir flour into sausage and drippings until blended. Cook and stir until light golden brown. Gradually stir in milk and seasonings. Bring to a boil and cook and stir until desired thickness.
My modifications: I Omit the onions but I do add onion powder. Add black pepper and garlic powder along with the salt and sage. And add the seasonings to the sausage right before I add the milk so it mixes easier.

Ok, your food porn sold me. This will be on my menu in the coming weeks.
I love your recipe.... especially over a toasted english muffin and some scrambled eggs.
Drool! I love gravy!
O.M.G. I need to make this!
This is my favorite breakfast too! My husband is very grossed out by gravy so I never get to make it! Maybe I will have it later as a midnight snack...that is terrible, but its usually the only time I made this stuff!
You should check out www.homesicktexan.blogspot.com she has such a wonderful buttermilk bisquit recipe in it. I have the recipe in my blog too, but I got it from her.
Thanks for the recipe. My husband loved this. I think the sage made all the difference.
